英文寓言小故事1:The Boasting Traveller

A man once went abroad on his travels, and when he came home he had wonderful tales to tell of the things he had done in foreign countries. Among other things, he said he had taken part in a jumping-match at Rhodes, and had done a wonderful jump which no one could beat. "Just go to Rhodes and ask them,"

he said; "every one will tell you it's true." But one of those who were listening said, "If you can jump as well as all that, we needn't go to Rhodes to prove it. Let's just imagine this is Rhodes for a minute: and now -- jump!"

Deeds, not words.

英文寓言小故事2:The Chopsticks

Mrs Wen had1 two children, Janmes and William. The boys were always fighting2, both at home and at school.

One day, they fought3 again at school. Their teacher called Mrs Wen and told her about the fighting.

"Oh, I have had enough!" said Mrs Wen after she put down the phone. "Why can't they help each other and stop fighting?"

英文寓言小故事

When the boys came home that day, Mrs Wen took some chopsticks from the kitchen.

"Try and break these," she told them. Neither of them could break the chopsticks. Then she gave them one chopstick each.

"Now try and break it, "she said. They both broke the chopstick easily.

"You see," said Mrs Wen, "We are like the chopsticks. We are only strong when we help each other. "

After that, they never fought again.

英文寓言小故事3:The oxen and the axletrees

A pair of oxen were drawing a heavily loaded wagon along the highway, and, as theytugged(用力拉) and strained at(紧拖) the yoke, the axletrees(轮轴) creaked andgroaned terribly.

This was too much for the oxen, who turned round indignantly(愤怒地)and said, "Hullo, you there! Why do you make such a noise when we do all the work?"

They complain most who suffer least.
