Many old building are protected by law because they are part of a nation&39;s history. However, some people think knocked down to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices. How important is it to maintain old buildings? Should history stand in the way of progress?

Old buildings sometimes conflicts with social advancement. Appealing as it is in the eyes of business people, tearing down old architect to make room for real-estate development is not a wise idea in many ways.

The primarily reason is that old buildings, like our native language, forms our cultural identity and keep a unique record the history of a country. From this aspect, old buildings are considered very valuable as one of the symbols of the culture of a nation. For instance, the traditional Chinese residence in Beijing, Siheyuan, are once seen as the remains of the Old World, and were destroyed by people shortly after the founding of People&39;s Republic of China. Until recently did the people and policy makers as well realize that it is an inexcusable and stupid idea to commit such a terrible deed because old buildings, once gone, are not restorable. But their economic values and aesthetic appeals have just caught the attention of Chinese people.

Moreover, old buildings, if planed and preserved properly, could coexist with modern real-estate development. In France, aged buildings bring millions of dollars of revenue for the government and amazed thousands of tourists. Yet no one thinks the high-rising office buildings and apartment buildings make the old architect a sore of the eye. By contrast, the new learn from the old, a fact that makes them more attractive.

We admit that not all old buildings should be treated equally and some of them do need to be torn down for various reasons such as safety and new buildings. However, we should not be too blind to see their value too. If only the real and practical factors are being considered, the country will be sorry for its loss in years to come.

As we have discussed, old buildings are part of a country&39;s history and are valuable in many ways. We should plan well and be wise enough to see their value. But the same time, we should also do our best to find solutions to make the old and the new coexist in harmony.

For example, towards some old houses, one of the common measures is to renovate them with new materials and make them look bright and luxurious. After that, the house owners are not allowed to live in these houses and they cannot sell them as well. The only purpose of these “new” houses is to be visited and be decorated. This kind of measure is not economical and unreasonable. For one thing, the house owners need to spend a lot of money to preserve the houses; for another, our traditional cultures featured at these houses cannot be spread effectively to others and the next generations. Thus, the measure made to preserve the cultural relics needed to improve.

Another example, concerning some famous buildings, our government spends a lot of money to renovate and preserve them and charges for the entrance fee. This kind of action to a large extent keeps people from visiting these famous buildings; doubtless, the spread of our traditional cultures is also limited.

Therefore, in order to spread our traditional cultures and preserve the cultural relics, our government needs to mend their measures. At the same time, people should enhance their awareness of protection of cultural relics and mend their manners.

As of 2005, China already has 31 natural landscape and historical sites have been declared as a world cultural heritage, when we are immersed in the world with joy and pride to share these, when almost no one stopped to think about those of us the future of the world's treasures.

As we know, thanks to its vast territory of China, it is such a vast territory that she has many different types of climatic conditions, only gave birth to the rich and colorful Chinese culture. However, the benefits will also have a negative role, the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes is one such example. For thousands of years, our forefathers exhausted their life time in this great and deep caves, the knowledge and wisdom with brush condensate cast in each side of the wall, hoping that knowledge and wisdom to be immortalized. At that time, who had thought that one day these huge and magnificent works will be damage to the forces of nature. Mogao Grottoes is located in China's north-west, to connect the Eurasian continent in the Silk Road Trail, is a long road that the largest treasure. Despite a hundred years ago it had been stolen, but it damaged the biggest reason is that continental climate brought about by the disaster. Mongolia by the North to the high-pressure effects of climate Dunhuang region perennial drought, sandstorms frequent, annual precipitation is only more than 40 millimeters, while the annual evaporation is as high as more than 4.3 thousand millimeters, up to several thousand years of time, our Mogao Grottoes has been frequently attacked by the dust storms, coupled with long-term droughts, earthquakes and rain erosion of the outer wall of a cave once eroded, constantly thinning. To make matters worse, cave murals have begun to change color, from A, crisp and even off base.

From the 20th century, the beginning of the 40's, the Chinese people began to have a conscious act together to protect our great historical treasures. First, people have been built in the cliff face sand wall, but have little effect; later tried to dig anti-Shagou, soon to be filled sand. In recent years, we finally found the sand and sand control can be a good way. First of all, we in the sand and grass, the grass all the sand box can firmly fixed in place, after two kilometers to create a shelter belts, so that the effective regulation of regional climate. Scientists said that in this way can prevent nearly 80% of the sand into the Mogao internal.

In the protection of our precious world cultural heritage, we really made some encouraging progress, but it should not only be a temporary rescue works. These factors brought about by natural hazards, will no doubt continue, threats still exist for the Mogao Grottoes, for which efforts also need to last forever, generation after generation.

Dear friends, let us join hands together to protect our splendid ancient civilization. We may also slightly younger, but as long as we have a firm belief, jewels will shine forever. Our spirit will spread from one person to another person.
