There was a dense forest. And all the trees were straight and tall. Their trunks were broad and shapely. But, there was one tree which had a crooked and shapeless trunk.
The crooked trunk tree was sad. He thought, "How ugly I am! All the others are straight and shapely. I alone have a crooked trunk."
One day a wood-cutter came to the forest. He looked around and said, "I will cut all the trees here, except that crooked tree. That one is of no use to me."
And so, he cut away all the other trees. Now, the crooked tree understands that being different has its advantages.
A self-important lion in the jungle tried to make his mastery clear to all.
He was so confident that he paid no attention to the smaller animals and went right up to a bear. He asked the bear, "Who is the king of the jungle?" The bear replied, "Of course you are."
Then the lion asked a tiger the same question. The tiger replied with some reluctance, "Of course you are." And then he went to ask an elephant. But the elephant would not allow the lion to do so. He suddenly took hold of the lion with his long nose and bounced the lion against a tree, leaving him bleeding and badly shaken up.
When the lion finally got up, he blamed the elephant and said: "Even if you couldn't answer my question, it's not necessary for you to act so rough."
Once upon a time there was a man who dropped a silver bowl into the sea while crossing it.
He pondered, "I'm going to make a mark on the water. I'm carrying on my journey now. But I'll come back for it later."
After two months' travel during which he visited Ceylon and many other countries. On seeing a river, he jumped into the water looking for the bowl he had lost before.
"What are you doing there?" people asked. He replied, "I have lost my bowl. Now I would like to get it back."
People went on, "Where did you lose it?" He answered, "I lost it crossing the sea."
Again people asked, "How long ago did you lose it?" He answered, "I lost it two months ago."
People asked, "Since you lost it two months ago in the sea, why are you looking for it here in the river?" He answered, "I made a mark on the water where I lost the bowl. This water looks the same as the other. There seems no difference. That's why I'm doing this."
People went on, "Though all waters are identical, the place that you have lost it is there. How can you find it here?" Everybody jeered at him.
