Educational Background -- Student Life
I: Were you involved in any club activities at your university?
C: Yes. I was in the chess club for four years. Playing chess cultivated my patience and perseverance / I was a member of Student Poetry Society. I liked Writing poems in my spare time / I was in the drawing club for three years. And I won the first place in the drawing contest in 1994. / I was a member of the university singing club for two years. / I was a violin (piano, flute) player in the college orthestra / I was the captain of the university foo.ball team / I was on the college basketball team.
I: Were you in a leading position when you were a college student?
C: Yes. I was president of Student Council of our university. And I served as the monitor for two years.
(No. But I joined the Youth League When I was a fresh man.)
I: Did you get any honors or rewards at your university?
C: Yes. I was chosen as a Three Goods' student for several
times.(I was elected an excellent League member for three academic years on end / I got the university scholarship in 1994-1995 academic year / I received the departmental scholarship in my senior year / I was singled out as a model of learning from Lei Feng in 1993 / I won the first place in the English Oratorical Contest of our university in 1994 / I got the first-class prize for the calligraphical contest of our college in 1992 / I got the second place for the high jump in the university sports meet in 1994 / I received the second-class reward in the Olympic Mathematics Competition of our province in 1993 / I won the championship in women's long distance race in 1992.)
I: What extracurricular activities did you usually take part in at your college?
C; I usually went swimming in summer and went jogging in
winter. I sometimes played table tennis and sometimes played
basketball. I persisted in running every morning. I usually took part in recreational activities. I usually joined in body-building. I often did shadow boxing after class. I Joined the women's club in the first year. Generally speaking, I went dancing always on Saturday evening.
I: Is there anything you regret not having done or would like to have done differently at college?
C: I devoted almost all my time to my studies, and laid a
good, solid foundation of my major area, and that was
good, I think. But I think probably it would have been
better if I had gotten a little more involved in extracur-
ricular activities. I spent so much time on club activities during the four years. However, I did not migs any of my classes. But I think my academic records would have been much better if I had put more time and energy into studying, looking back on it.
I: Was there any teacher who impressed you very deeply during your student life?
C: Yes. When I was a college student, our English professor
left a deep impression on me. In class, he was responsible in teaching and very strick with us students. But out of class, he treated us as his ovn sons and daughters. We all liked him very much. / In the middle school I had a Chinese teacher named Mr. Liang. He introduced me to such Chinese classical novels as "The Dream of the Red Mansion","A ilgrimage to the West", "The Heroes of the Water Margin",
and "Historical Romance of the Three Kingdoms". It was
Mr. Liang who led me into the "palace" of literature. I'll never forget him.
